TYPE 3 (ESSAY)

Etnocentrism in Indonesia..

As i mentioned before that ethnocentrism oftenly happens in Indonesia because of the people itself. they are not open minded, it also can be caused by they dont't want accept another culture. For example Betawi people do not feel another people from outside the island or region are their family, just because they come from another or different places, cultures or even ethnic and religion. And i think it could be decreasing the improvement of the country to be better for one.

TYPE 3 (TASK)

Cultural Lag in Indonesia ..

I think cultural lag in Indonesia is still happening until now , it's caused by many reasons. the people or maybe the technology itself or maybe the improving of Indonesia , still many people in Indonesia couldn't customize with global world life , for example like internet, people in Indonesia don't know how to access internet even use the computer. I think people should be more aware of everything that happens in life , so that we can improving ourselves and avoiding cultural lag.

3 Examples of cultural diffusion ..

- (k-pop) korean pop, it's been everywhere and it's happening in Indonesia since 2011 from their style or their music .Many Indonesian youth like to hear or follow korean pop, even they forgeting abaout their culture or tradition. It's really bad.

-In technology, cultural diffusion also happens in Indonesia, example; Indonesia is the top 3 blackberry in the world, it becomes a style, if you dont use blackberry as your smart phone, you just aren't cool people.

-Indonesian people also like using or consuming western product, because they think western products are more reliable, more quality and the best to use, they'd rather using western products than Indonesian products. As we know that Indonesian products are low quality, that's why many western products are welcomed in Indonesia.like Mc Donalds, KFC, Sevel etc.

GLOBAL DIFFUSION ...

I think Global diffusion in Indonesia happens for a long time ago , because of Indonesia lies in "trading spot" so it affects many aspects of life, which are Art , Music , Architecture , etc. But i think it's just natural as long as it's still in the positive way . Indonesian people also should be more creative and innovative , so that we can make our own global diffusion to the global world someday.

3 examples of ETHNOCENTRISM

1. Discriminating againts ethnic Chinese. Indonesian people discriminate based on ethnicity and religion.the mobility of the ethnic chinese was limited. they bcant be public figures or even do something for society.

2. In America discrimination is based on skin colour, it's oftenly happening to African, because of their skin is different from white people of America , they mobility or even their rights to do anything freely there. In public area Africanget no changes to enjoy public facilities , like they dont have seats in public bus.

3. In Indonesia especially in Jakarta , racism or discrimination also happened by (BETAWI PEOPLE) the native people of Jakarta. They think other people from other island or region that come or live in Jakarta are strangers , because betawi people ust think that they the only one who own Jakarta. They feel like posses Jakarta.

3. cultural shock can also occur when changing jobs , even if you don't move , that is called coorporate cultural shock. throughout my friend's carrier , he's worked in small companies (less than 100 people) , now he finds himself with a company that employes over 1500 people working in a bulding , he was deeply affected by the difference , even depressed

TYPE 1 (task)

(1) . The differences between ETHNOCENTRISM and CULTURAL RELATIVISM

ETHNOCENTRISM

1. Underestimate other cultures by felling superior than them
2. Discriminating other people (more discriminative)
3. Close minded
4. Do not care / aware with other cultures which very different from their own cultural situation

CULTURAL RELATIVISM

1. Appreciate other cultures by admitiing them
2. Do not discriminate other people even from different culture
3. Open minded
4. They soetimes can learn or even study another culture even very different from their own cultural situation

(2) . 3 EXAMPLES OF CULTURAL SHOCK

1. In Indonesia we oftenly see girl holding another girl's hand, its actually normal if it happens in public area because it represents " sisterhood". once my friend Lena went to America (United States) for study and then she went to visit her girlfriend who had come to the state a year before,  they're walking together on the street of NewYork , sightseeing. when Lena noticed that her friend was not willing to hold lena's hands, later on she explained to Lena that woen don't hold women's hands and men don't hold men's hands in the united states.

2. In Chinese culture, if you say thank you to a family member, you are actually distancing yourself, so whatever you do even just for a simple thing you should be thanked. in Indonesia we hardly say thank you to our family members because we just think their our own so it doesn't really need to say thank you more often. i think we should try this culture by now hehe
